Event Log Security

In this guide we'll talk you through how to make your event logs secure so that you can limit which staff can see and change certain information within an event log.

1. The permissions and security can be changed for each individual event log. This is done via Security > Event Log Security

2. This will show a list of all of your event log in the box in the left. Within this box, there are 2 overall permissions that will apply to all staff; Anyone Add, and Shareable

Anyone Add

When ticked, allows any staff member to save an event log regardless of what other security settings have been put in place for that event log category.

An example of where this is used is safeguarding, where you need to make sure that all staff can submit a safeguarding incident, but you also need to lock certain staff from then viewing sensitive information once it has been submitted.

Shareable
This is for categories that are locked from other staff groups, and allows anyone with access to the event log, to share it with individual staff members that wouldn't typically be able to view the details for that category.

Tick the relevant checkboxes to apply these settings to the category next to it.

3.  Next, click the Pencil Icon next to the Event Log you want to alter the permissions for. This will then display a list of any security group permissions that have already been set up. To create a new set of permissions for a security group, click Add Security Group.

4.  Select the relevant security group from the dropdown menu, then select the checkboxes as needed for the following permissions:

  • Allow to View - this allows everyone in the security group to view any of the events in this category
  • Allow to Edit - this allows everyone in the security group to view and edit any of the events in this category
  • Allow to Add - this allows everyone in the security group to add any of the events in this category
  • Allow to Delete - this allows everyone in the security group to delete any of the events in this category
  • Allow to View Own - this allows everyone in the security group to view any events of this category that they have created
  • Allow to Edit Own - this allows everyone in the security group to view and edit any events of this category that they have created

5. You can also set security for individual sections within an event log.

To do this, go to Event Log > Category Setup > select the category you want to change > View Settings

Find the section that you want to make secure, and click on the Security button

Then click the checkbox for Secure Section? and click Add Group.

Use the dropdown to then select the security group that you want to give access to this section.

Important:
When the Secure Section? checkbox is ticked, only the security groups that have been selected will be able to view this section.
