Setting up Target Cache

The Target Cache in Databridge is used to specify the Areas, Skills, Targets and Objectives that staff use to select from when adding Targets/Objectives to a Learner. Subject, Care and Therapy targets share the same cache.

Accessing the Target Cache

Navigate to Administration -> Standard Values. Within the Defaults area, click on Target Cache.

You will see the existing Curriculum Areas for the Target Cache displayed with a + icon next to each. Click on these icons to toggle the browse the next level of items.

By default, Databridge includes an example set of items in the Target Cache to serve as an example and if applicable, use on live Learners.

What are the Levels being displayed

The breakdown of the areas displayed are as follows:

  • Curriculum Area
  • Core/Subject
  • Skill Area
  • Skill
  • Target
  • Objective

Curriculum Area is the top level of the Cache, e.g. 'Key Curriculum', 'Autism Educational Trust', 'Qualification x'.

Core/Subject is used simply to determine if the next levels are to be used for either Core or Subject based Targets.

Skill Area is the next level underneath Curriculum Area, e.g. 'Numeracy', 'Literacy', 'Social Communication'.

Skill determines the general skill before breaking down into Targets, e.g. 'Awareness of spoken words', 'Expressive communication'.

Target is the actionable task/skill that will be selected for attachment to the Learner.

Objective is a step towards completing the Target.

Information
You may notice some Skills DO NOT have Targets underneath. This type of setup is done to enforce that for that area, staff can only add a custom/personalised Target instead of picking from available items.

Adding/Editing the Target Cache

To add a top level item i.e. a Curriculum Area, click on Add Curriculum Area on the right hand side.

Enter the details for the area accordingly:

To add a Skill Area, click the Curriculum Area label. Click on the Add Skill Area button and then on the Core/Subject relevant button, depending on if the subsequent levels will be for Core or Subject Targets. Enter the label for the area, tick Available so people will be able to see it, and click Save.

To add a Skill, click the Skill Area label. Click on the Add Skill button.

Editing, Removing and Re-ordering

To edit any item, click on the label for it, make your changes and click Save.

To hide any item (not delete it), click on the label, then untick the Available checkbox and click Save.

To remove any item, click on the label, then on the Delete button.

To re-order items under a level, click on the label, then click on the Move button at the bottom. Use the arrow icons to move them accordingly and click Save.

Using Excel to setup Cache

If you click on File -> Create Excel Target Cache Template, you will get an Excel spreadsheet with an example already added. You can use this spreadsheet to enter all the desired areas and levels as required instead of using the add options mentioned above.

When you have finished adding values to the spreadsheet, you can use the File -> Import Target Cache Spreadsheet option to import the values from the spreadsheet into the Cache.

If you are making large changes to the Cache this is a quicker method than the individual add options mentioned above.

By default, new entries to the Cache via this method are automatically marked as unavailable. To enable them after import, click on Show Unavailable on the right hand side, click on the newly Curriculum Area label, tick Available and click Save.

If you want to make changes to an existing area using Excel, you can click on the Curriculum Area label, click Export, change the provided spreadsheet accordingly and import it to overwrite the current layout of that area.

Important
Do not leave any blank rows in the spreadsheet until the end of all your entries. Databridge identifies a blank row as the end of the import and you may miss items. If you are ever unsure, feel free to contact us to look at the spreadsheet for confirmation.
