Similar to Goals, there is the option to allow custom Targets and Objectives to be applied to Learners, should their curriculum be bespoke on that level.
However, Target Cache is useful for creating Targets and Objectives that you can then apply to multiple Learners quickly.
You can create your target cache from within Databridge, or you can import an Excel document to upload all your curriculum in one go.
To create the target cache from within Databridge, click on Administration > Standard Values, go to the Defaults section, and click on Target Cache from the list.
Next, click on Add Curriculum Area in the top right. Input the title for the Curriculum Area.
You will see the existing Curriculum Areas for the Target Cache displayed with a + icon next to each. Click on these icons to toggle and browse the next level of items.
By default, Databridge includes an example set of items in the Target Cache to serve as an example and if applicable, use on live Learners.
Below is the structure of the Target Cache:
Curriculum Area
The top level of the Cache, e.g., ‘Key Curriculum’, ‘Qualification x’
I
Core/Subject Targets
Used to simply to determine if the next levels are to be used for either Core or Subject based Targets.
I
Skill Area/s
The next level underneath Curriculum Area, e.g., ‘Numeracy’, ‘Literacy’, ‘Social Communication’
I
Skill/s
Determines the general skill before breaking down into Targets, e.g., ‘Awareness of spoken words’, ‘Expressive Communication’.
I
Target/s
The actionable task/skill that will be selected for attachment to the Learner.
I
Objective/s
A step towards completing the target.
And here is an example of what that might look like:
Curriculum Area
English
Core/Subject
Subject
Skill Area
Grammar
Skill
Spelling
Target
1. To achieve a KS-3 pass grade in spelling.
Objective
1.1 Spell 10 words without support.
1.2 Use a dictionary to check the spelling of a word.
The Core/Suject distinction is in place as the Targets on Databridge are divided into these two basic categories. For any holistic Targets, or Targets that the Learner would be working on constantly, such as 'Expressive Communitcation', or 'Use a greeting to gain a peer's attention', would be added to the Target Cache under the 'Core' option of the 'Curriculum Area'.
Using Excel to setup the Target Cache
If you click on File > Create Excel Target Cache Template, you will get an Excel spreadsheet with an example already added. You can use this spreadsheet to enter all the desired areas and levels as required instead of using the ‘add’ options mentioned above.
If you are making large changes to the Cache this is a quicker method than the individual ‘add’ options mentioned above.
By default, new entries to the Cache via this method are automatically marked as unavailable. To enable them after the import, click on Show Unavailable on the right-hand side, select the newly made Curriculum Area label, tick Available and click Save.
If you want to make changes to an existing area using Excel, you can click on the Curriculum Area label, click Export, change the provided spreadsheet accordingly and import it to overwrite the current layout area.
IMPORTANT: Do not leave any blank rows in the spreadsheet until the end of all of your entries. Databridge identifies a blank row as the end of the import, and you may miss items.
