Clearing the Browser Cache

In order to speed up navigating round websites, internet browsers store pages and other resources in a cache. When you visit a website, your browser takes pieces of the page and stores them on your computer's hard drive.

When you visit a website for the first time, your browser has a conversation with the remote server that hosts the site. Your browser sends a request, and the server sends back one of the website's assets. This can take some time depending on the amount of information in the webpage. To speed up subsequent visits to the website a lot of the information is stored in the browser cache on your computer's hard drive. Retrieving information from your hard drive is much quicker than across the internet from the webpage each time. Depending on the website's settings the cache can be stored for just a few days or sometimes longer.

When updating a website, if the information (for example a logo) is in the cache then your computer will not show the new one until the cache is refreshed. So you may need to refresh manually rather than wait for the current cache to expire.

So when we update Databridge you may need to refresh the browser cache depending on what we have updated.

Refreshing the Cache

In most cases pressing CTRL+F5 with the browser open will refresh the cache. 

If you are unsure about clearing your cache please speak to your IT support.

Chrome

To clear the cache for Chrome get started by clicking the Three Dots icon in the top right of your browser window. Then, find the More Tools option and select Clear browsing data… from the submenu. 

Make sure that only the Cached images and files box is checked. Otherwise, you might accidentally clear your browsing history, saved passwords, cookies, and more. 

Then click Clear Data.

Edge

To clear the browser cache for Edge, click the Three Dots icon in the top right of your browser window. Scroll down and click on Choose what to clear. 

Make sure to only select the Cached data and files box to avoid clearing important information. 

Then, click the Clear button at the bottom.

Firefox

To clear the browser cache for Firefox get started by clicking the Three Lines in the top right and selecting History. Then, in the menu that appears next, select Clear Recent History… 

Firefox will then open a popup. In the Time range to clear: drop-down, select Everything. Then, make sure to only check the Cache box to avoid clearing important browsing data. 

Then, click Clear Now to clear your cache.
